Turquoise Continued
Technically, Turquoise is a basic hydrous phosphate of aluminium and copper, with lots of little pieces of other cations and anions mixed in which gives it its rich array of colors and shades.
Turquoise is also commonly admixed with clays and veined with a "matrix" of silicious materials usually including the diverse oxides of iron which generally give the matrix its color.
The color of Turquoise is waxlike, the hardness is around 6, and it is generally cryptocrystalline. Turquoise is most commonly found in altered silicious igneous rocks, usually in conjunction with secondary porphyritic copper mineralization.
In addition to the New Mexico deposits, Turquoise is notably found in Nevada, Arizona, Australia, Persia and China.
